There is a hilarious scene in Chachi-420. Om Puri is chasing Chachi to unearth the truth. In the process, he ends up in a narrow lane. He comes to a halt seeing a dog next to a man sitting outside his home.
In his typical Punjabi tone, Om Puri asks "आपका कुत्ता काटता है क्या?"
The man shakes his head and mumbles "नहीं"
Assured by the answer, Om Puri shoves the dog to move ahead. The dog lashes back and bites.
Startled, Om Puri asks "अपने तो कहा था की आपका कुत्ता काटता नहीं"
"ये मेरा कुत्ता नहीं है" replies the man curtly.
Imagine another scene that is so common in marriages, parties, and other functions. Somebody bitten by the MLM bug is hard-selling you a Tupperware, Amway, or other such product. People are politely getting themselves excused.
Social events are for building relations. They are not for selling. We can take a clue from this. We have ignored the word social from social media. Most use it for selling stuff, and this results in low conversion. We should use social media to build a relationship. That way, when we show up for selling, we are a welcome guest. Just remember and follow the things you did while courting your fiancée from dating to marriage. That's the exact recipe you need to follow in the sales process.
People have been bitten so many times by such salesy people that we believe every dog bites. Let us not be one of them!
