A man died. He landed at a junction. There were two doors there. One leading to hell and the other to heaven. There were large displays on the main gate. We first watched the advertisement being played on the screens of heaven. People wearing simple clothes, and eating simple food, were doing their work happily. He thought it was a boring routine to live after all the trouble he had gone through in life.
The screen on the walls of hell presented people dancing, partying, eating, drinking, and doing everything one would dream of on earth.
It was a no-brainer. He chose hell over heaven.
The moment he entered hell, a couple of officials caught him. They took him to a central place. He was flogged and beaten. Why was this happening to him? Where had all the goodies gone? Somehow between the endless blows, he asked "Where are all the goodies promised to me in the Ad?"
The officials replied - "On the gate of hell, you were a prospect. We needed you to sign up. Now you are a customer!"
This story has two morals:
a) As a customer, do not get fooled by overcommitments and glossy pictures presented to you.
b) As an organization, do not just tell facts. Please be sure to educate the customer about the virtues of value creation and trust.
