The Power of Habits
November 28, 2021 - I was driving back from Mumbai and noticed my belly was just an inch off the steering wheel! And though I had no other ailments, my BP levels were on the higher side. I weighed 85 Kg with a BMI touching 30.
I had reasons (now I can say excuses) for that. I had a lot of assignments on my hand. I worked tirelessly for days. I had no time for any other things.
But something did not seem to be going right. I decided it was time to get back my health.
So, on November 29, 2021, I got my assessment done. A long-time friend Vishal helped me set some mid-term goals.
1. Reduce the weight to less than 75.
2. Get the BP to normal levels.
3. Run two hill marathons.
Thus, began my fitness journey. Initially, I set a goal of 1650 Calories per day with a target of burning 350 calories.
Long story short, flash forward a year. Here are the results:
- Weight down to 73 Kg.
- BP Normal.
- Completed Panhala and Satara Hill Half Marathons in good time.
I tracked every possible parameter - Diet, Exercise, BP, Weight, etc. At the end of 1 year, I logged in more than 3000 Km of run+walk and climbed 60000 meters! I bought a food scale to weigh everything I ate.
Was I consistent all through? No. But, I was conscious whenever I missed my goals. I came back stronger.
- I missed working out 87 days in the year.
- I exceeded my calorie intake 38 times during this period.
Side effects:
- My business doubled.
- I started a new business.
- My outlook towards life became positive.
- But, my expenditure on clothes increased as my waist diameter dropped from 36+" to 32", and my shirt size went down from 42" comfort fit to 38" comfort/40" slim.
Apart from Vishal's guidance on the workout and diet front, DARREN HARDY and Brendon Burchard's books and videos provided the necessary alignment to my life's goals.
