After more than a decade, I have picked a novel to read. And it is a re-re-re-re-read!
*Mario Puzo's - The Godfather*
During my college days, 6 novelists had a profound impact - Ayn Rand, Arthur Haley, Mario Puzo, Jeffrey Archer, Fredrick Forsyth, and Robert Bloch. But, *The Godfather* was the only book I used many times as a reference. It guided me out of my dilemmas and helped me make decisions.
The novel is lavishly sprinkled with practical tips on leadership, strategic thinking, relationships, and resilience. 5 standout quotes from the novel for me are:
1. Revenge is a dish best served cold.
2. Friendship is everything. Friendship is more than talent. It is more than the government. It is almost the equal of family.
3. I have learned more in the streets than in any classroom.
4. Great men are not born great, they grow great.
5. Never hate your enemies. It affects your judgment. A corollary to this quote is: Keep your friends close. But keep your enemies closer.
Which is the book you are currently reading?

PS: It is rare that a movie based on a novel captures the images in your head. In most cases, it is a letdown. But, the Godfather is an exception. The movie translated the novel in blood and flesh. It enhanced the experience. Al Pacino made Michael Carleone's role immortal.
