In my earlier blog, I distinguished between speed and haste. Removing roadblocks and enhancing productivity in pursuit of a cause is what I mean by the word SPEED.
The starting point of building a speedy organization is finding a purpose. It is a cause that goes way beyond products, market segments, and monetary measures. Most often, the purpose stems from the experiences and challenges faced by the founder. The founder may or may not know the way to solve the problem. Only a resolve to transform the world is at the root of a purpose. Such transformative purpose simultaneously excites and scares the people. The delta between the current state and the perpetual purpose energizes people to undertake a crusade.
Transformative Purpose achieves multiple goals. It attracts the right set of employees, investors, customers, and community members to associate with the organization. Use this 3-Step approach to create the first draft of your organization's purpose:
List the Core Values of your Organization
List the Inherent Strengths of your Organization
List which sections of the Community would be positively impacted by your work
We use our core values and strengths to positively impact certain sections of society. Those sections of society may not even be human beings. They could be rivers, flowers, soil, environment, animals, industry, and anything we care for. Imagine how the world would look like when we have solved the problem. That's how a transformative purpose is born.
Transformative Purpose is not the same as a Mission or a Vision Statement, or a Goal. Over time, Purpose should become the Brand Identity of an Organization ( Red Bull - Giving you Wings).
