My morning routine is something I strive to adhere to.
Even if I have to attend a meeting in Mumbai at 7 am, I make sure that I wake up early and complete my morning routine. It has had an immense impact on my life. So, this is what I did today.
6:00 - Woke up and made my bed
6:05 - Glass of water
6:15 - Freshen up
6.15-6.45 - Yoga
6.45-7:00 - Meditation
7:00-7:15 - Journaling
7:15-8:15 - Moved 300 Kg of soil to fill a ditch in the garden.
I include a physical activity ranging from 5 min to 15 min in my morning routine. It sets the tone for the day. When this task is accomplished, I feel invigorated. Today, I had a relatively free day ahead of me. One of the targets that I had included in my journal was to move a heap of soil. It had been there for the last couple of weeks, waiting for the contractor's men to arrive. Today, I decided to tackle it as much as I could.
So, Ashwini Gadgil and I set out to break the inertia. In an hour, we could only move 1/3rd. My son and nephew stepped in, and they moved some more. We then took a break. We returned back to the task and have got the job done.
I find the following benefits of handling such tasks:
We understand the value of labor.
It helps our kids appreciate that all jobs are equally important.
We overestimate the enormity of a job. Most often, when we break inertia, things get moving.
Accomplishing even a menial task motivates us to take on other challenges in the day.
